Which one of these is not like the other? What is it?

It could be a White Orpington. White Rocks have yellow legs and Orps have pink. Looks like the chick's legs are pink. Or, it could be a White Jersey Giant.

I'm sorry.... I don't have any ducks, but they are sooo cute.

That one of my adorable pekings next to chickzilla Chickzilla is next to my standard sized Boff Orp they are all 2 weeks old (not the including the ducks).

yes pink legs. pink fat legs..... I'm concerned its going to die of a coronary! Poor thing will run to food and water, lie down, run to the other side of the pen, lie down, move to a new spot, lie down, eat some more..... and you guessed it. I should put it on a treadmill.

So when's the drum roll? At about 6 weeks maybe 8 is old enough to tell what it is? I am going back and fourth on the name chickzilla or sumo chick. As long as it doesn't wrestle my other chicks.

NO worries on the attachment thing. I've taught my kids to love and respect all animals, and that some animals are yummy to eat. Plus we set aside one favorite chicken to keep. They've asked me every aspect of what we do to eat the chicken (more than once) and I am honest with them. They seem fine with it. lol. Since they were ity bitty often when we eat meat I call it by name like beef "this is yummy cow". They see and love live cows, they ask me if we eat those, I say "Yes we eat those kinds of cows. They are yummy; a butcher has to kill them before we can eat them. We always are nice to animals and take good care of them. We use some of them to eat and some for pets." I have not yet seen it disturb their appetite or emotional upset. At the moment they think chickzilla if fat and funny.... and yummy lol. My sons a bit youg still though(2 1/2), I may have someone keep him away until I prep it.

OK so keep an eye on the bird and wait no more than 10 weeks from now, maybe 9. Anyone know the signs the bird my be dying and I need to take it to the chop?

Nope. They literally fall over dead. I think that happens a little later though - the "meat birds, etc" forum is a GREAT resource for how to manage Cornish X.
