Have 5 acres of land help me choose:Can i get 2 of each or not.
Columbian Wyandotte, Barred Plymouth Rock, Rhode Island Red, Buff orpington. I want to start with 8 or 12 to begin with this is my first.

Most breeds of chickens can be combined in anyway that you want. The only breeds you should be careful with is polish, silkie, and bantam. Most non crested standard breeds get along and see no differences between themselves.

Thank you for the advise, now i need different roosters too i guess. If i could only have one breed which one should i choose for looks alertness and egg laying.

Are you just keeping a flock for eggs or are you looking to breed certain breeds? Just for eggs you don't need any rooster, which is better for a beginner as they can become aggressive if you aren't familiar with them.

I keep an extremely diverse flock with all kinds of breeds because I can't choose just one. There are breeds that are just egg layers, there is dual purpose and meat breeds. I personally like dual purpose breeds.

By you description of what you are wanting it sounds like mostly for egg production. Leghorns and sex links are good producers.

I don't have chickens (yet?), either, but yeah, I don't see why not. They all sound like great breeds to start out with for some people.
And like oldhenlikesdogs said, you don't need a rooster to get eggs (only for fertile eggs do you need one), and our opinions vary, obviously, on what appeals our eyes, but I think you should go with the Welsummer for one rooster breed.
