Which pullet laid this egg?

I'm not sure I want to do a butt check lol. Those are the only 2 pullets who dont let me hold them.

Examine bird off roost after dark, about the only way I ever do it.
Wear a headlight or have someone hold a flashlight, keeping it dim until you have bird in hand.

Tho if both bird area close to laying, checking vent and pelvic bones might not tell the tale, you might have to catch them in the act to be sure.

They are both very close to laying. They have been squating for the more dominant pullets for about 3 weeks now and have been sitting in the nesting boxes and pushing the fake egg around for the last 2 weeks.
I do look them over while they roost in the evening to make sure they all look good and healthy... But I still don't really want to do a butt exam lol. Unless its necessary for health reasons.
I have been keeping an eye on the nest today to see if I can catch which one it is. Thank you!

It is kinda necessary, get familiar with how they look normally,
and get over the whole 'not touching butt' thing,
so you're comfortable examining them and know what looks normal if something does go wrong ...oh, and, to look for external parasites regularly, around the vent is the most likely place to find the lurking.

I used to be shy about it too. Now it seems everytime one is acting strange im reaching for the rubber gloves lol. I had one we were worried was egg bound so i had to put olive oil in her vent and check for an egg. Ever since then ive been a regular chicken proctologist

I still put on gloves though. I've got some hang ups but im no longer shy about it

Not all pullets sing the egg song.
Mine didn’t for many months after they started laying.
The two youngest I have now just started laying yesterday and there’s no egg song from them yet.

LOL my 2 SLW's squak like they been violated when they started laying

I just want to say that we are not a proctologist and those who check hens are not either. I think we have digressed. This is where common sense comes in. Go with aart on this one if there is a need. No need at this time. If the color of the egg does not first match the hen. No need to traumatize both owner and hen further. See what hen would lay that color first before invasive procedures that are not necessary. We know the only one that could have that color was the Maran. There were no other issues here to worry about. Done!

I only asked about the egg color because I looked up pictures of Barnevelders eggs and lots of them are very dark brown. That is part of the reason I wanted her. I have even seen pictures from members of this group with very dark Barnevelder eggs.

The eggs my French black copper Maran chicks (3 roosters 1 pullet) came out of seemed a lot darker then this egg is but I can't find the lictures I had of them.

I took some screenshots of the barnevelder egg pictures that I've seen and I'm attaching them.

Honestly I'm hoping its the Barnevelders because I really hope my Marans eggs are darker like the one she came out of.. But maybe my memory is playing tricks and they weren't as dark as I think I remember lol. I really wish I could find those pictures. Thank you everyone who replied.
