I have four females that hatched together and two crave to be pet with one of them being obsessed with me, spazzing when I cough or clear my throat (I think she thinks it's my crow) and tidbitting good treats for me it seems xD
They like upper leg tickles and light belly rubs, but all while reaching into their cage. They usually like to cuddle in a double hand cup and squish their heads between my wrists, sometimes they will slip their heads up into a loose sleeve and will go into kind of a trance while straining every once in a while to get deeper in to the sleeve... Happened with one of my males too, he climbed right in and I had to remove him from my sweater neck hole haha.
These are quail that I hatched and kept the most tame ones. Perhaps if you are getting live hens, try and get them from the same group to reduce the chances of fighting and choose the ones who flinch the least at your presence, when you approach the cage, open it, put your arm inside, there will probably be two kinds, those that are slamming themselves into walls thinking you're the devil about to kill them, or those who are just weirded out by you and are avoiding you but not spastic about it - they have good chances of taming down when they get used to you and the new setup aided by treats ^^
If you hatch, be prepared to "rehome/repurpose" any extra males - you should have a plan in place and be prepared to follow through with it.
