Hi! I have 9 egg laying pullets (2 White Leghorns, 3 Barred Rocks, and 4 Rhode Island Reds). I am keeping one cockerel (same breeds). Is one particular breed of rooster the nicest or best? I have had them all since they hatched. When will I need to re-home the ones I’m not keeping? I don’t want them to hurt each other. Thanks for your words of wisdom. These guys hatched in my classroom and I am brand new at this!

As I have 70+ Roosters from 30+ Breeds. I live with fights everyday. 4 walk in Rooster House's and You get to see who wants to be left alone and who are just Jerks. First off all have the same instincts to ine degree or another. I see Polish, Brabanters and Lavender Orpingtons as being somewhat layed back. My Silkies & Sultans can be obnoxious to others at times. My Old English will fight to accept You then leave You alone as My Seabrights just want to fight everything.
At the end of the day. Buy a docile breed the hope his personality fits the word Docile. Lots of space helps & don't let the SEE the Hens.

Roosters of any breed can be nice or jerks, I do my best to not encourage behaviors, I don't show fear, and walk with purpose, if a roost comes up to me I pick him up every time, soon he will come to me to be picked up, or leave me alone. I never chase hens, never let little kids in the coop. I also never offer a foot for them to fight, or push them with a broom.

As far as who to chose if I were you, without knowing your roosters, I would chose the barred rock.
