Which Rooster would you pick?

My neighbor breeds them and ended up with 5 cockerels. She is going to keep two and finding homes for the other 3. He is around 10 weeks old.

She breeds several different kinds. My husband says I need to stop acquiring birds. I think she is trying to make me an addict lol. She is TX NPIP certified, what ever that means. I just know I want 1 of everything she has over there.

i would suggest welsummer I've had my boy for 3 years and he's handsome and gentle.

I would suggest anything but an Amercaucana or an EE, I have kept them and they are very aggressive- no fun at all.

i was going to bring in a new flock with a americana rooster, how many of yours were aggressive because I' planned on breeding americanas

I have a a barred rock that is really a good roo. Treats the girls good, protective, and no human agression. Not a flashy breed but still nice to look at with good attitude.

True Ameraucanas are supposed to be a calm breed. My Blue Am rooster has never shown any aggression toward people (including kids), dogs, cats, ducks, or other chickens. Two of his sons (both came from the same hen, she was a bully) have been rough with other chickens but never shown any human/other animal aggression. The rest were culled by at least 16 weeks but I never had an aggression problem with any of them.

If you plan to breed make sure you are getting true Ameraucanas. They will be labeled with a color. If the breeder/seller is spelling it as "americanas" then they are likely Easter Eggers.

@MrsBeck Be aware that black is a dominate color. You will get colorful eggs but most of the chicks will also be black, depending on the color of the hen. If you want to test it with your current flock colors you can use the chicken calculator.

I've got news for ya, Friend ... with a coop roster like yours, you're already an addict! Don't feel too badly about it, though ... most of us here are in the same boat!
