Which Warmblood stallion to breed to? Update:Riding the mare!

They ask outrageous prices to buy their horses. I could import a better one for much less. Their stallion is lacking both in class & offspring achievements in my humble opinion & their stud fee is at least as high as these top poster stallions of Europe.

Eta: why does every single breeding thread on this forum turn into a "how dare you breed your mare thread"? No one's mare is good enough, there are too many horses being killed (thought I'd avoid being blasted for that at least since it's not a problem here). This is the bottom line: I have a mare that I want to breed. I do not want to use Israeli stallions as I don't like them. I want to use frozen semen from a European stallion with LFG & I would like a stallion & foal if possible with the stamp that I have shown here. Anyone who can help me with this, please do. Anyone who wants to go off topic from my question, please post somewhere else.

Sandro Hit throws some very exceptional looking foals. His sons are just gorgeous. Are the vets in your area familar with frozen? Some vets have zero experience with it, requiring a drive to a special facility. Have you looked into if the semen needs to be quarantined?

Do you like the looks of Ferro or Krack C?

Salieri is relatively cheap and produced Salinero (7 or 8 World Cup golds). He is black with a bit of white. He also has some jumping bloodlines.

Can you tell me what types of warmblood stallion you are seeking, hanovarian, swedish WB, Trehkener....
What countries you are looking to import from, and the price range you are looking to spend.

Have you thought of using your connections in SA to look at the stallions there to breed to, not flying there, but importing cooled or frozen?
I can help, but want to know what type you are looking at and cost.

Wow, very helpful peaches! I like the looks of Krack C but not Ferro *gasp, sacrilege* Considering that live animals don't need quarantine to come here, I doubt that semen does

I have a vet that can do it but I might land up using my cow inseminator in an emergency *gasp again* He has so much experience with frozen semen & somehow my brain is telling me that there is very little difference between cow & horse female reproductive system from an insemination point of view. He gets far more hits than my vet does anyway

I like the KWPNs the most. I was actually thinking of using a SA stallion but they charge more than the Europeans even though their currency is half of ours as opposed to 5 times ours & their horses aren't quite as good. Any of the European countries are good & I want less than 1000 euros LFG. Think MOVEMENT, tiny head, long neck, white markings!

Are you sure no animals needed to be quarantine in your country? I am surprised!

All you can do is to contact the Euro breeders and see if they can get a discount for you. Shipping isn't going to be cheap either! I wish you best of luck getting the lucky stallion for your mare.

If there is such a deficiency of good WBs in your country as you say, and no quarantine required, then it is hard for me to imagine that it wouldn't make more sense to import one, rather than spend money on buying/shippig/using probably *multiple* rounds of AI semen, a year of mare care, then 3 plus years of "room and board" for the foal. It might "only" come out about equal in cost but you would have a KNOWN result (and *now* rather than four years down the road) as opposed to hoping nothing goes wrong with the foal, as too often happens. In particular, has this mare ever been bred before -- if she has a history of taking easily and carrying the foal well, that is a different proposition than if it'd be her first time or has had trouble being got in foal before. (I know someone who spent several years and probably over $10,000 trying to get her perfectly-good, nothing-veterinary-science-could-find-wrong-with-her WB mare in foal, before conceding that for some reason it was just not going to happen. Even in a less 'worst case' it is quite easily possible to have to do a number of cycles of AI before getting one to take, especially if you are not using a vet who has a long track record with successfull AI in horses as opposed to cows)

Have you actually sat down and done the math, and found out what it would cost to import a horse (like, one that would be considered "enh" in Europe but that is better than what you feel you have domestically)

In her case I would use the mare, shes decent. I would breed to the very best stud I could afford. Raise and enjoy that baby and then if I was real lucky and it was a filly breed her when shes grown to the best stud I could afford. Then again the raising of the babies and the breaking and training is one of my favorite parts of owning a horse.
