which would show better?

That's ridiculous. If someone is happy with the chickens they own fine. Showing isn't for everyone & for someone just interested in keeping chickens the quality of the chickens isn't important.
That said, the only reason to show is to promote the preservation & propogation of birds that properly represent the breed/variety. Taking poorly bred birds to a show, knowing they are not good examples of their respective breed/variety, is pointless & I don't see how it could possibly be fun. For one thing it costs money to show. There are entry fees to be paid plus whatever travel costs going to the show involves. Taking birds such as those pictured here would be a waste of that money.
Beyond that, a poultry show is a competition. Who enters into a competition knowing that they have no hope of succeeding?
As to your hypothetical questions why wouls anyone be proud of their chickens? If the show in the living room [messy] was conducted like an actual show, no they wouldn't win. AS to the piano question I suppose you were attempting to be witty.
Finally, winning a prize & having a properly bred chicken that represents their breed/variety [ooo la la in your words] is exactly the point of showing.

These three will probably always be too wild to show, anyway. I can see the point of both sides.

Calling my opinion "ridiculous" is rude. I have my inexperienced opinion and you have your million dollar chicken knowledge - doesn't mean I'm ridiculous nor does it mean my opinions are ridiculous...it means that they are mine and I'm entitled to them, as are you. You're a rude person and quite frankly I still have yet to read a post from you on this board that has been stated with any tact whatsoever.

I stand by what I said, which was directed at the OP.

That was not a rude post at all. It's too bad you feel that way. The statements are simply facts.

However - your post, including name calling and insults, IS rude. It is also inaccurate. I see you have been a BYC member for less than a month. Just a little advice here - you can learn alot from a few of the posters on the site. Don't be so overly sensitive, and certainly it is not a good idea to call names and sling insults.

Good luck to ya.

My assumption is that when people ask a question they're looking for a factual, helpful answer. The OP asked which of her birds would show better: the factual answer is none of them.
I neither said nor intimated that you weren't entitled to your opinion, you of course are. However, the fact that everyone is entitled to their opinion doesn't make all opinions equally valid or useful. Personally, I can't imagine myself offering an opinion on something I knew absolutely nothing about. You obviously don't show & by your own statement you "may not know anything about chickens". Despite the fact that the subject is one you know nothing about you felt comfortable offering an opinion. I, on the other hand, do show & have considerable knowledge about chickens. I would submit that my opinion is considerably more valid & useful than your own. The fact that you "stand by" your opinion based on no knowledge astounds me. It suggests an ego that outstrips reality.
When one posts on an open forum there is always the danger that one will read something they don't like. Anyone who is too thin skined to handle that might want to consider avoiding such a forum.

All too often people with post or reply to a request for evaluation of a bird with the expectation that there will be a lot of "oh, how cute" or "how beautiful" comments. The reality is that there are many who pose the question wanting honest evaluation. Sometimes, from a post it is difficult to tell which is wanted, yet in this particular thread it seems obvious that an honest evaluation was requested.

Aw, guys- I didn't mean to cause an argument. I appreciate both views. Katynmo wants me to have fun and enjoy myself with my chickens, NYreds wants me to show quality, show standard chickens without disappointment and discouraged in the hobby. I've learned a lot with the post, keep my Sebrights as pets. I have others that hopefully I can show when they grow. Thanks so much, please don't fight. Makes me feel guilty.

Wowsers!!!! No wonder Chicky has left BYC.

At the end of the day, no matter our opinions, we have to realize that the written word is so much 'stronger' than the spoken. Without the ability to have eye contact, notice body language and hear voice tones, we only hear the 'voice inside our own head'. I think it is clear that Chicky was just being friendly and bubbly and offering her opinion. Being new, she did not understand the seriousness that some approach chickens and BYC. I really don't think it's worth damaging someone's soul or spirit to win an argument or to establish authority!! How awful!

Surely, at the end of the day, it is the judges who truly hold the standard???! You issue the ribbons and certificates. What does it truly hurt allowing someone the joy of showing just because their measures of 'life' and 'success' differ from yours. Clearly, they are not going to get the ribbons, but they are going to go away more knowledgable???

Wow!! And it's OK to completely humiliate and disgrace someone and then tell them they don't have thick enough skin to be a BYC member. Very sad!!! :(
