I didn't read all of the replies but here's what I'd do:
Graduation night is too busy and long, so we'll just be heading home after the ceremoney.
Ask MIL/FIL to host a gathering on the weekend to celebrate instead. Ask for it to be either at their home (preferably, so if you get a headache
you can leave easily) or some restaurant that's kid friendly. That way MORE people can come and celebrate with you, which will give you an excuse to stay the heck away from SIL/BIL and their kids and not lose your mind.
As for tickets - if there are only five and DH needs one (and honestly, I don't think he'll need one, I think they mean that OTHER students can't get in with just their ID, they need a ticket)....then there's one for you, DS, DD, MIL and FIL. Done. That means SIL won't even be around that night, which is another reason to postpone the 'celebration.'
