White appleyard?

I ordered some Campbell ducklings from Holdereads. When they arrived there was 2 yellow ducklings as well. On the lid it said 10 campbells plus bonus 2 white appleyard ducklings. I have never heard of a white appleyard. It is not listed on th breeds he has. Has anyone ever seen or heard of a white appleyard?

I cant say that I herd of a White Appleyard might be something he is working on..
I seen the light and dark silver appleyards. I would think if it is a white appleyard it would be hard to tell the White Appleyard and a good Pekin apart.

Solid White birds do pop up occasionally in Appleyards. White, restricted Mallard, and light phase are all kind of confusing in ducks (in my opinion). Appleyards vary a lot in coloration. I think there are probably genes at work that we are not fully aware of.

I have read recently (in the Ashton books) that restricted Mallard is not always dominant (which doesn't make sense to me) and that Appleyards also vary in color because some are heterozygous for light dilution. The coloration of Appleyards also doesn't really make sense to me if white is really recessive.

Anyway, it would make sense that some pop up that are solid white because they have Pekins in their background.

The people I got my saxony ducks from got 10% whites from their flock and their birds are direct from Holderreads. When they asked about them Dave said that they do pop up, a few a year. Maybe the whites are just throwbacks that he didnt want?
