White Cochin with diarrhea. Need help identifying illness.

Is her crop empty in the morning before eating/drinking?
I did check her crop several times the last few days but not first thing in the morning, and it feels empty and not spongy. I guess because she hardly ate anything. I will check her first thing in the morning. Thank you.

Some things to try besides the egg and wet chicken feed, are chopped liver, tuna, salmon, or ground meat. Of course if he eats, cut back on the treats to mostly chicken feed. Once the Corid is finished, give him 1/4 tablet of vitamin B complex ground into his food or a treat daily. Probios powder or other probiotics can be helpful twice a week. I have no trouble using a tsp of plain greek yogurt (Chobani or a similar brand that contains several live cultures) for probiotics.

Hi all,
I just wanted to give an update on our white Cochin, Snowie. Snowie has been on Corid treatment since Sunday night. I still have her isolated at night. She appears ok and is foraging the yard with the other two hens. She still refuses to eat the chicken feed and other food like mashed up eggs and cooked ground meat... that I put in front of her. She still drinks the Corid diluted water on her own and eats some grass while foraging. I have been handfeeding her some mashed egg and layer feed . She does not like that at all. I feel that her diarrhea may be getting a little better as it is not as loose as before. I am sorry for the gross pictures but thought I'd attach them to get your opinion on her current condition. The picture with pine shavings was from first thing in the morning. The other one was from this afternoon after her bath.
Thank you.

Her urates appear very yellow in her droppings. That might be a problem with her liver. Once you complete the 5 days of Corid, I would start some vitamins, such as Poultry NutriDrench 2 ml daily which you could give a drop or two at a time. That might increase her appetite hopefully. How is her weight? Does she have any enlargement of her lower belly between her legs, compared to the other hens?

She's losing some weight for sure but not terribly light. I do not notice any enlargement of her lower belly, but I will check again. I have been giving her 2-3 drops of poly vi sol w/o iron last couple of days. Should I stop that?

Usually when Corid is given, some believe that giving thiamine (vitamin B1) should be avoided since Corid mimics thiamine in the coccidia organism, causing starvation of the coccidia. It should be noted that most chicken feed contains thiamine, so I am not totally convinced, but many believe that. I would just wait until the Corid is finished to resume the vitamins.

Hello,
Just wanted to give another update on Snowie. Snowie was on Corid for 5 days, and I have started her on Poultry Nutri Drench (1ml straight up, as she's only weighting at 3 lbs) for two days now. She does not appear to have any enlargement in lower belly between her legs, as Eggcessive suggested that I check as it may associated with liver issue. She still refuses to eat and drink on her own. The only things now that she would eat some on her own are cut up pieces of grapes, and grass when walks around the yard. Her poop condition hasn't changed since I posted on Wednesday. I still continue to force feed her with mashed eggs and moist layer feed at least to get something in her stomach. Attached are pictures of the poop from this morning and of Snowie herself. She's about 10 months old and I think she may be a bantam but the seller said she is a regular.

Snowy is bright white, and is very pretty. I cannot understand why she is not getting her appetite back. Hopefully, the vitamins will help. Thank you for the update, and I hope that she improves. Probiotics in her diet would be good. Some chicken feeds have them, but you would need to check the label and brand. I give 1 tsp of plain greek yogurt, and some use Probios powder or other brands of probiotics.
