White Cornish: Building a Quality, Sustainable Flock for Meat and More.....

I sure hope no one thought I was implying there's ignorance on this thread. I sure wasn't at all.
My light Sussex have a ways to go before they become meat birds. not far but a ways .what I was talking about is latest research they're talking about . In ovo feeding of the broilers. giving them a meal before they're hatched. It's fascinating . also all of the supplements that they're developing to encourage the gastrointestinal tract development and prevention against disease during the first 12 days . it's fantastic . so much here we can use on our dual Heritage breeds like the Sussex . I'm really excited about it.

Hubbard uses RIRs as male slow grow breeders!

@FD the hatchery dark cornish I started with had a few white feathers in their primaries. I was going to try and breed to the white. Mr Barred Owl put a stop to that notion and consequently wore out his welcome.

Since WC bantams are widely avalible, I figured could cross them with WLR LF, keep the ones with the white feathering, and after a few generations I'll probably get to large fowl whites.

I am fascinated by the in ovo feeding of embryos. When I was in the dog world I spent 4 years creating the Bellwether Neonate Protocol. Designed to prevent canine neonates from dying from environmental challenges. The cornerstone of it was administering Dr Dodd's fresh frozen concentrated canine plasma (thawed) orally before colostrum closure. It worked.
I have been working on a similar protocol for Neonate chicks. My one problem was finding something like the plasma for chicks. But they are in an egg. What to do? This in ovo is the answer. The in ovo research by Professer Uni at Hebrew University in Israel is fascinating.

FD, I googled the referenced "Smyth"
Then went to scholarly publications and promptly got a wing dinger of a headache. This is gonna take me a while to find anything useful...since I don't have a clue what I'm looking for.
