White Cornish

Thanks

I will contact both of them and see if they still have them, I would be intersted in breeding a few just becuase of their rarity, if they are desent quality.

If you cant find White Cornish you might try White Aseels...

Chris

So far pepper48_98 has PMed me back and he does have them and sent be a pic of a really nice looking quad that he says are show quality and he said he should have some eggs next year one he can build the flock up a bit more. Still waiting to hear from AL6517, I may try to get some from both of them.

Do you know if White Cornish are dominant white or recessive white ? I know the WLRs obviously have dominant white, but I'm not sure about the Solid whites.

AL6517 said he cant spare any for a while but he does also have some great looking birds.

Thanks for the contacts.

I'm guessing they're dominate white as that's what both the white laced reds and the hybrid Cornish meaties are . Since I was unable to find quality white Cornish and the show strains often have fertility or breeding problems anyway , I'm going to try crossing hatchery quality white laced reds on some meat hybrid Cornish X Rocks . [ They're only at 14 weeks currently . ]

Here's some WLRC and CX at 5 weeks , 1day :

10 and 1/2 week old CX cockeral with same age EEs that he will also be crossed on , plus a couple of CX pullets the same age in the next pic :

In my experience, the white cornish are recessive white. My silver laced brahma project started with a silver laced cochin/ white cornish cross resulting in a double laced black and white pullet. For several years white chicks would occasionally be produced from laced parents.

As impressive an animal as a good Cornish is, you have to be seriously dedicated, and maybe a little touched, to raise them.
My Father is so afflicted. I have never seen a bird so bent on their own demise. I don't know if all varietys are like this, but his standard whites are very game. Even the hens will duke it out over anything. Then with their build, when the do get knocked over, they are like turtles on their backs, except they can't right themselves. Fertility is always an issue with show quality cornish males, especially as they age. I suspect this is a major factor of their scarcity.

Dad is still struggling to continue with his birds. The few chicks he was able to raise last year where all female, leaving him only one old male. If anybody is able to hatch any extra males this year, please let me know.

If you are familiar with good white cornish (and old enough) you should appreciate my signiture line.

big medicine, you are spot on.

That being said, I want to get some bantam dark cornish...just for kicks and giggles. What else would go better with Langshans!

The cornish are almost more prone to an early death than the Cornish X. The reason? They just WANT to die.

If you are serious about Large White Cornish you might try going the the Cornish club's Yahoo site and talking to them. There are a number of breeders of White Cornish on there.

Had people not bred them to be so " impressive " they would be a great bird instead of the non-functional , unhealthy variety they evolved to be . To be frank , I've always felt a certain amount of disdain for the show industry encouraging unhealthy extreemes and show breeders striving to breed any variety to such extreemes that they are nearly completely non-functional . If we would say " What a shameful disgrace ! " instead of " What an impressive chicken ! " [ and award it a show win ] the white Cornish could return to its place as the ultimate meat breed . I'll now step back off my soap box

I was thinging they would be recessive too, they seem to be pretty clean. And If they are recessive, and end up being too big for their own good, then I should be able to breed in a lower grade Dark roo and then breed back to get more whites and that may help tone the boulder on legs part of the show type whites down a bit, because if I had them, I would need them to be able to function close enough to regular chickens. And breeding in a Dark roo may also help with their fertiliy issues ?????

And the sig line is funny, and I am pretty crazy so that should help me out with them if I did get them, and all this other stuff I'm working on.

btw BackyardAR, Sorry for hijacking the thread, lol.
