This chicken was sold to me as a white crested blue polish hen. She’s clearly not blue but I’ve read that, since it’s a cross, it can be bred to be blue and still turn out black. Just curious if I indeed got what I ordered. In any event she is my favorite. And can I confirm “she” is a hen at this time?

I cannot confirm, nor deny, the gender of your bird, at this time.:old

I see no color at all to the comb/wattle area. That combined with the crest make me say pullet.

Hi there, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

That is a white crested BLACK Polish PULLET.. It MAY have come from both BLUE parents because blue only breeds true 50% of the time. See if this chart helps you to understand the basic concept ...

So your bird if crossed to a splash would make 100% blue chicks.. cross to black 100% back, cross to blue 50% of each black and blue. Hatcheries KNOW how to guarantee blue.. I hate it when they sell blue chicks and say you may get black. If I order blue, I wan't blue dammit!:duc

Most breeds start getting in pointy saddle feathers around 12 weeks of age..

The lack comb and wattle development and color though is pretty telling at the stated age.. and ALL signs I can see say pullet! :celebrate

Please note the Polish bird does not look like a cross.. the blue gene just has varied outcomes.

Thank you! Blue or black she is such a little snuggle bug. I got her with a RIR and and a BR. She hates to be separated from them and loves the squeeze herself between them in the coop.
