I hope my pics are clear enough. New phone. Its only letting me upload one photo at a time, sorry. Can you tell anything? I tried to get all the stuff that was in the egg around him in case that helps provide a clue. Lets see, when candling, id say he took up about 50% of the egg. Maybe 30% air sac, and the other 20% this liquid yellow thats on the plate. If he had fluffed out, i *think* he would have been the right size of a baby duck, maybe not? When i opened the egg starting at the air sac, i think he was upside down, i saw feet first and had to open the rest of the egg to find his head. But to me, i dont see any deformality. He was wet and sort of sticky. Any ideas would be appreciated. For my other eggs im going to keep the humidity lower as Amykins said. Thanks so much.
Well, it does look underdeveloped to me. And you're saying the liquid inside was that yellow color? That is yolk from the yolk sac. Did you possibly break the yolk sac when you opened up the egg to look at the duckling? If you didn't accidentally do it, then the duckling did during incubation. That would absolutely kill the little guy, so I'm guessing that's what happened.
Ok. I think i broke the yolk. But he looks underdeveloped? Ok so im thinking. Maybe thats what happened. I can already tell my next egg that is supposed to hatch in about 7 days is bigger in the shell than this one was for sure. Its already filling most of the shell. I can see only about 10-15% yolk. He still has a week to go so im hoping thats a good sign. Im so glad you could give me some closure on this one. Ill just assume for whatever reason he just didnt fully develope.....and hope it wasnt my fault. Well he got a proper burial in my garden. I guess now i need to focus on my next egg "the sequel"
Ok, then it wasn't the yolk sac, but he was indeed underdeveloped for whatever reason. I really don't think that's anything you or your incubator did, especially since your next guy looks much better. Good luck with your next hatch and hope it goes better for you!
Ok I have my next 2 eggs on day 28 today! I think one is looking really good BUT I'm getting worried about him. Yesterday morning I could clearly see he was pushing on the air sac hard, I thought I would have an internal pip for sure, but nothing has changed and it's 24 hours later. He is trying so hard. I don't know if it's from him pushing, but now the air cell looks like its starting to saddle. Is that normal? I'm worried he can't get through into the air sac. I have the humidity up fluctuating from 65-72. Any suggestions or words of comfort would be great right now, haha. Thanks!
It may be time to assist. Let's see if @Lacrystol is nearby. @madamiec is also a hatcher, and @Amykins and a few others - I am not a hatcher, I just try to share what I have read here on the forum.
@QuackerJackFarms has helped quite a bit with hatchers.
Also, you may want to start a new thread.
Meanwhile, some of this may help (at least give you some names of hatchers you might want to PM)
Thank you soo soo much for your response. It seems everyone is offline right now . Sorry I'm not very good at all this online stuff haha, I'll try starting a new thread. I hope if I need to assist I'm not waiting too long...
I need to go outside - you may be able to find instructions by searching the archive for assisted hatch duckling. Also I rememver seeing a Yourube hideo on assisted hatch.
