White Genetic

So, breeding a white to a red would be the equivalent of breeding a black with a red?
Nope.
There are two genes for white.
Dominant white and recessive white.
Since the breed was not specified, I can’t tell you what it is.

Dominant white is always based on black. It will cover up most of the pigment of the resulting cross. Dominant white to red will make paint, (possibly with red leakage) or a white with a few dark flecks.
There may be blue or any other dilution-or barring under dominant white, but it can only be black based.

Recessive white can cover any color. You never know what you will get, especially if you don’t know the breed. Since it is recessive, the color hidden beneath will be revealed right away, and white may pop up in the following generations.
