Hi all. So today I went out to collect eggs and put my chickens to bed and when I went into the coop area I noticed one of our WL hens, Charmin, was acting strange.

The first thing I noticed was she was sitting on the hay and not on the perch with her sister.
Then I noticed her looked off balance. I put her on the perch with her sister to see if she would stay and she kept rocking back and forth like she couldn’t steady herself.
She also kept her eyes closed until I picked her up and even then, they weren’t open all the way.
I took her outside the coop to look at her vent and I noticed it was very swollen looking and red.
She was pooping, or trying to poop I guess. This wasn’t normal looking poop though. It was very watery and some of it was clear like it was water.

I didnt have my phone so I couldn’t take pictures and it was getting dark and hard to see. We had just wormed them with Safeguard goat dewormer two day ago but I don’t know if this is related to the wormer.

Can someone help please???

I will update tomorrow when I go to let everyone out to forage in the morning.

How is she today? Was she able to pass egg or worms by now?

In case it is a stuck egg, you can give her a calcium boost to help pass it along. Calcium + Vit.D3+Vit.K will help with the contractions. You can give her people tablets right in her beak once a day. Some people recommend a soak in warm epsom salt water for about 15 minutes to help relax her abdomen. If you will soak her, towel her off thoroughly afterwards and dry with a hair dryer, but very carefully not to burn her.

Then have her sit on a warm pad in a warm, demi-dark and quiet room in your house. It is best to use a cage and cover it partially with a towel to give her privacy.

Good luck!

I went out there this morning and I guess she had died during the night. She was also sitting on an egg that wasn’t there yesterday afternoon. I guess she was egg bound and I didn’t know it.

I thought she was just acting odd because of the dewormer. I think I read somwhere that it may make your chickens weak.

☠️ RIP Charmin ☠️

I am sorry she did not make it. :hugs

White Leghorns are sadly prone to reproductive issues, as their eggs are way too big for their tiny bodies.
