My BIL's White Leghorn just went broody. I almost didn't believe him until I went and saw it myself. I gave him his chickens, so I know what they are for sure. I even gave him a Cochin so that when it went broody, we could hatch some eggs. But the Leghorn went broody. Downfall is although the Cochin could have sat on 18 or so, the Leghorn is only taking 10 or so. Oh well...

Is that normal? I thought Leghorns almost never went broody. I guess "almost" is the key...

I've got a black sex-link with five 4 week old chicks and a cuckoo Marans sitting on 7 or 8 eggs. Both are hatchery birds (strike one against broodiness) and both are breeds/hybrids that rarely go broody (strike two). But there you are. My BSL is a fantastic first time mama and I expect the same from my Marans. Nobody was more surprised than me when the Black Star went broody, but I guess the BR came out in her. So yeah, it happens! And to all those who say hybrids and hatchery birds don't go broody, I say
