Ongoing shell gland emergency. Anyone know why white liquid dtill and no eggs.. i have been giving her enroflaxin and nothing works

I'm not a veterinarian, but I can provide some general insights into what might be happening with your female duck.

Possible Causes of White Liquid and No Eggs

  1. Shell Gland Issues: If she’s experiencing a shell gland emergency, it could be due to an infection or inflammation in the reproductive tract, preventing egg formation. The white liquid could be a sign of fluid accumulation or infection.
  2. Infection: If enrofloxacin (an antibiotic) isn’t working, it’s possible that the infection is resistant to it or that it’s not the right treatment for her condition.
  3. Egg Binding: If she has an egg stuck in her reproductive tract, it could cause fluid accumulation and prevent her from laying eggs.
  4. Oviduct Issues: There may be issues with her oviduct, such as a blockage or abnormal growth, leading to fluid buildup.

Recommendations

  1. Veterinary Care: It’s crucial to consult a veterinarian who specializes in avian or poultry medicine. They can perform a physical examination and possibly imaging (like an ultrasound) to determine the cause of her symptoms.
  2. Supportive Care: Ensure she is hydrated and has access to nutritious food. Sometimes, supportive care can help stabilize the bird while awaiting veterinary assistance.
  3. Monitor Symptoms: Keep an eye on her overall behavior, appetite, and any other symptoms. This information will be helpful for the vet.

Immediate Steps

  • Isolate Her: If she’s showing signs of distress or illness, it may be best to keep her isolated from other ducks to prevent any potential spread of infection.
  • Document Symptoms: Take note of any changes in her condition, including the appearance of the liquid, her behavior, and any other symptoms.
It’s essential to seek veterinary help as soon as possible for accurate diagnosis and treatment. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask!

How old is she? If she is younger how long has she been laying? What is her diet? How long has this issue been happening? How long have you been giving her the Enrofloxacin? Can you get a picture of the white liquid you are referring to?
