So today 2 of our girls (I believe our RIR) had their first lay! We were happy to see the brown egg with our normal white eggs from our Leghorns.
When I went out again and randomly checked their coop I found another brown one! Only it looked different. We do have a Welsummer but I read their eggs are Redish-brown?
I took pics to compare with our other brown egg from this morning. We only feed layer and occasional treats and free range. We did have oyster shells laid out few weeks ago bc our Leghorns eggs had soft shells. We then purchased layer (oyster was given with grower not layer but her eggs were still soft so we switched to full layer).
Not sure if food has anything to do with it? Currently we dont give oysters anymore (least I don't hopefully hubby isn't either).

Thanks in advance!
Turned on flash to get better look. My kitchen lighting isn't the best.

Brown eggs can be matt or shiny. It just depends on the hens.

Do you have a picture of the suspected welsummer?
Thank you for replying. I believe I do have a photo. I'll check my phone now. If not, I will take one in a bit. Just checked, I do not have a photo of her on my phone. Every other chicken and my rooster I do lol Oddly enough not her. Probably in my camera though.
