I got one of these eggs just this morning, in Montana, with temperatures in the teens this morning, so it is not directly related to heat stress. I know this is an old post, but for future viewers, here is what I found:I forgot to add that the white ring is on one side of the egg only, on a long side, not circling the diameter of the egg. It's not raised. It is a defect in the color of the shell. It's as if pigment is missing, but it is the ring-shape that really has me puzzled?
19.) White Banded Eggs
If two eggs come into contact with each other in the shell gland pouch, normal calcification is interrupted. The first egg retained in the pouch will have an extra layer of calcium seen as the white band marking.
Causes:
- Stress
- Changes in lighting
