I have 6 hens and three of them have developed white scaly, crusty legs and feet. What would cause this and how do I fix it?
It has been very cold here, could that be it?

thanks for any help

I'm dealing with the same thing right now. Several people have recommended using Ivomectin pour-on cattle dewormer. I gave my birds their first dose last night.

Yes that should work also. When you use the salves, it smothers the mite and softens the scales and then they come off alot easier. You may have to do it 2 or 3 times. But they all work.

Yep, I had an old timer tell me once to use WD-40. That is what I have used ever since. I have heard that Vaseline works too like was stated earlier it smothers them..

I just had to deal with this as well w/ some silkies I purchased. I used VetRx...it worked quickly it was easy to apply, not to mention it was less than $10 at the feed store.

I have never used the vet rx for this, have to give it a try sometime. We can get it here for around 8.50.
