White spots on rooster’s comb

Rooster has these white spots on their comb with no other symptoms. They’re not insects. Not a result of injury. Legs look fine. Tried to gently flick one off (unsuccessfully) and he didn’t like that at all. What do you think could be causing this? Thanks friends.

Thanks, I looked as suggested and no, favus doesn’t seem like a visual match to what Rooster here has going on.

They seem sort of like whiteheads but hard. I put some oil on his comb and tomorrow I will see if it will help dislodge whatever is going on?

I don't know what you would call that except "gunk in combs"

It seems like some birds that have all those nooks/crannies in the combs might be a bit more prone to having that? You mention they are like whiteheads - likely it's very similar. Debris, dirt, etc. get impacted/clogged in there - I would work on digging them out. Maybe a blackhead remover might help or tweezers?

If you do take them out - get some photos of what comes out and of course before/after of the comb too

The more time goes by the more I suspect the spots could be a result of excess calcium because he does eat layer feed. They do look and feel like calcium.

I haven’t tried digging any out yet. If I do, I will certainly get detailed pictures and post them here.

Since posting this I‘ve been putting out a selection of all flock and layer feed. I don’t know if the roosters are choosing to eat the all flock feed or what. They are all free range so what one eats, all the other have access to so...

Roosters eating layer feed isnt good. Too much calcium for roosters will eventually cause kidney damage/death.

The only place there are white patches is on the comb
