White x Tolbunt Polish

Unless you know what's hiding under the white, you could end up with almost anything.

Most likely you'd end up with a black bird with leakage.
If they are pure white? I’m planning on buying from an excellent breeder who shows. (I really don’t understand genetics)

Most white birds are recessive white, it needs two copies to show but then it will show on top of anything- there will always be something underneath no matter how pure. It's like a covering gene- like grey horses will always have a colour underneath. As black is common it's likely that they are black underneath and seeing as it's dominant it will probably lead to black birds with leakage as mentioned. However, there really could be anything under the white- even tolbunt so you could get anything.

Ok. I have nice whites and have only hatched whites. I’d love some variety and would love to continue selling eggs to locals who really just want cool looking pets. I love the look of tolbunt but if I won’t get offspring that looks tolbunt or white back I’ll just skip it if they might end up not visually pleasing lol. I already have 4 coops and just can’t do another right now lol.

In which case, given that they are from a white breeding pen, there's a fair chance that they're homozygous white and therefore white x tolbunt will give you all white in the first generation (those chicks mated back to tolbunt will probably give you some tolbunt and white but also a mix of other things). If you're only selling to people who want yard candy and don't mind different genes hiding in the background, this might be fine.

Thank you friends. Genetics hurts my brain lol.

I purchased this handsome fella from a good breeder but he passed quickly, When my hens weren’t laying too, so I couldn’t even watch any of his babies.

and I had this boy who was so mean I had no choice but to rehome him.

I’m purchasing white eggs from The Chicken Hill. Hoping for a smooth boy. It’d be nice to have some color also though. So we’ll see.

Even if they aren’t pretty in the first generation, if you breed back to tolbunt the mottling and lacing will show up again in the second generation offspring.
