White yolk

Thank you all for you responses.
The hen that laid this egg eats layer feed and table scraps just like the rest of the flock. This is the first white egg it ever laid.
I wouldn't be very concerned. She must not be eating the green veges like the others or this is just a one time anomaly. Very interesting actually. Thanks for sharing with us!

That is incredibly pale:eek: I can see why you would be concerned.

I did find this which lists some possible causes:

And this thread:

I feed a corn free feed and initially my chickens produced eggs with pale colored yolks, but nothing like this. The yolks were still yellow, but more of a lemon yellow instead of saffron. I give them red pepper flakes as a treat now and have deep orange/yellow yolks. I buy the red pepper flakes in 5 pound bags online which last forever. Birds do not taste capsicum so to them it is just mildly tasty fruit/seed flakes. Some people mix cayenne pepper powder with chicken feed for the same reason.

Yes, I heard huge egg conglomerates put marigold in feed. I wouldn't think it would be all that much because marigold is one of those aromatic plants that even deer do not eat unless they are starving. I also think the trucks you saw were full of safflower plants. California produces 50% of safflower used to make cooking oil. It's grown all over my area. Breanne, where are you located? Howdy there!

I live at the south end of the central valley in Kern County, but the trucks I saw were further south between Santa Ana and San Diego... (I think we went to Leggoland). I'm pretty familiar with Safflowers, farmers would grow them around the town I grew up in. Might possibly have been sunflowers though. Chickens really like Safflower, I am thinking of growing them some. They are kind of a thistle though. Think Feather Falls would be quite a ways to the North of here, bet it is pretty there. Nice farming country! And hi there:frow!

Interesting on adding the pepper for color to the corn free birds.
I thought I had a pic of a corn free yolk, but can't find it.

Did find this 'white' yolk tho, it's a 'fart' egg so much smaller (I assume) than @Mrs. Light Sussex's pic, but may point to an ovary issue if it continues, or just one funky follicle if it's a one-off.
