that just doesn't make genetic sense at all.. you can do the same with wildtypeThe problem I have found with using wild type birds is that if the White bird is "hiding" Gold then you will never know. Where if you first cross to Black then the chances are good that if the White bird is hiding Gold then it will show up in the hackles of the offspring.

let me explain this...
first scenario the bird is Dominant white(all white) Crossed to Gold Wildtype..
chances are his genetic make up is E/E I/I s+/s+ but lets add Splash to the mix Bl/Bl
when crossed to gold(BBR) Wildtype the cross will be E/e+ I/i+(leaky whites) Bl/bl+(blue) this will produce leaky whites(leaking black and ground color) they will be all white with some blue color leaking(beause of Blue Bl/bl+) but thats only because we added blue to the genetic make up but if there is no blue, then the leaking parts will be black,
chicks will look like this
if the rooster is Hiding Barring then the leaky black feathers will turn out barred, Now Chris09 said he was expecting some gold feathers to leak thrue but when crossed to black, well the same thing will occurs, if the white bird is hiding gold some gold feathers will pop out on the hens and roosters(if the wildtype is a gold wildtype)

Scenario 3
bird is Recessive white(all white) Crossed to Gold Wildtype
since Wiltype gold is recessive to just about anyother dominant gene out there except recessive genes like recessive white and other recessive genes like mottling, this will show any and all dominant genes present, not to test for recessive genes you will have to do a F1xF1 cross, this will yield more recessive white birds and any other recessive gene present on the white birds..

Scenario 4
Bird is Recessive white(all white) and Crossed to Black...
Since Extended Black(E/E all black) is dominant to just about anyother gene, the birds will come out looking all black with gold/silver color leaking thrue.. leaving behind anyother genes hiding under the black(except for blue, barring, dun)...
so as you can see its Always better to use a Wildtype bird, just think about it, why do all of the genetic research done on labs us the Red Jungle Fowl? becasue its the "Wildest" of the Wiltype birds, but sinse you cant get your hands on a RJF, a gold wiltype is your best option.. many genes were extracted by using the Wiltype Red Jungle Fowl one of them is of interest of me, its called the Dilute gene
