Who all here gives away their eggs?

I give all my extras away to friends and family (and begrudgingly a dozen tonight to the annoying neighbor who tipped off the zoning enforcement officer that we have chickens illegally- hopefully this will keep her quiet for a while).

i give them as a tip to the mail lady, hair dresser and contractors (on the rare occasion we have work done). my family lives too far away, and when city friends visit i offer them a dozen. they usually take them. for the past 2 months i've been selling them to the ladies in my bible study and have been getting $3/dozen, so i take 2-3 dozen in every week. made enough to purchase 2 bags of food already - woo hoo!

ADozenGirlz...what happened with the zoning officer? How is it you still have your chickens? We're keeping hens illegally too, and I'm constantly worried that we'll get found out by our HOA.

I give my eggs to my family and friends, helps cuts down on the food bill and provides a good source of protein. I am looking at donating eggs later to th the local food back, when my new chicks start laying later in the summer.

I'm another person with roosters, so I too give away eggs as "bribes" to the neighbors! I'm lucky in that they all claim to love the sound of crowing in the morning -- whee!!! Actually, so do i !

I give more away than I sell. I just gave a partial dozen away (10 eggs) to a friend of my DH. I noticed $3 on the counter and I said is that your money and he said yeah for the eggs. I told him if he called and ordered eggs or asked if I had any to sell then I would gladly take his money but these are a gift. My DH said we wouldn't charge the true cost because he couldn't afford it. I didn't want to go into the true cost of the fish filets in our fridge at the moment from his ice fishing trip last weekend. I still giggle about that.

Many a day those eggs would've been a great weekend breakfast or late night snack!!

I only have 4 chickens, and they just started laying last month. Any time I have an extra 1/2 dozen I give them to family or friends. My DH took a 1/2 dozen in to work and gave them to a co-worker. Now, everyone wants some. I may sell them to people in work, but family, friends and anyone in need comes first - and for free.
If I ever get more chickens I think I'll start donating to the church or local food bank. That would be a nice feeling
