Who all uses the Nipple for watering?

Quote:
My day old chicks drank from the one gallon waterer as soon as I got them. I did put out a shallow dish of water as well, but discontinued that on day 3 or 4 if I recall correctly, because they were running through it quite a bit.

This is my first flock, they are a week old today & I decided to use the nipple water system right from the get go.

They were a day or 2 old when I got them & It took all of 15 mins for me to teach ONE chick (poor Barred rock....) and then it was like BAM--I could just hear the other chickies little brains thinking "ooohhh whats that shes pecking on.....let me check that out....."
And then a snowball effect occured and then they were all drinking in no time!!!

NO MESS, NO FUSS--- Awesome, clean water!!

To teach the barred rock I just took her and put her beak at the nipple & pecked. A couple of times. That was about it...

I have water in a quart jar with 4 nipples. I have 7 chicks.

I thank my lucky stars for finding this forum & the kind people who have helped me figure this out, especially TRILYN in Syracuse area-- her BYC page was very helpful and her patiently answering my questions...

I bought the push-in nipples from FarmTek. I also got the threaded ones for when they are ready for a 5 gallon pail of water..

Here is my setup using nipples from QC Supply. Works great and no more dirty water!!! Since I have my hooked up to an old 30 gal water heater, I can go away for an extended period of time with no worries!
