So, I found an egg in one of the nest boxes this morning. This is fairly usual. Out of 8 hens only one of the RIR's is laying. Pearl, one of our light brahmas has laid ONE egg (that we've seen anyway). Later this afternoon, I went into the coop to get the feed out of the rain and found, to my horror, some runny egg remains (no shell) in one of the nesting boxes. Did one of the girls eat the egg? How do you stop this behavior? THanks...

It could be that one laid the egg contents without a shell-I had one girl who was heatstressed in addition to beginning a hard molt that had that unfortunate occurence. Maybe a new layer did it. I also had a new layer who laid an egg on the ground without shell or membrane once. Could be you don't have an egg eater at all.
