Crazy that you can tell just by one picture. That’s a Great Egret, another heron. Nice photo!
No!Are you really good with chicken breeds too?
It was easy because most herons are very distinctive birds.Crazy that you can tell just by one picture.Thank you! That’s as close as it would let me come to it. It was also wandering around DisneyWorld.
Hey, practice makes perfect! It all about learning their distinguishing qualities, so it’s probably very similar to how you can tell birds apart. Breeds are pretty easy once you get the hang of it!No!
I want to get better at it. I know almost nothing about that sort of thing. I HAVE been learning a little bit about it since I joined BYC though.
What gives them away? Coloring? Or like how tall they are? I’m terrible with birds that aren’t poultry. It was easy because most herons are very distinctive birds.
Not too many large all-white birds in North America. The long, dagger-shaped bill and long legs point to a heron species. The bill is too straight for White Ibis (also the wrong color), and the proportions are wrong. This means it's an Egret. Bill is too long for a Cattle Egret. Bill is yellow which eliminates Snowy Egret. It's a Great Egret. What gives them away? Coloring? Or like how tall they are? I’m terrible with birds that aren’t poultry.![]()
Nice White Ibis! Love those guys.
I see both these every day!I can tell! It’s really cool! Do you know what this one is? I don’t. I’m just curious to see what it is. View attachment 2936160
