Who disbuds their kids?

Having witnessed and performed both, banding is far less traumatic and certainly causes less pain. Probably the only thing more humane would to be to have a vet remove the testciles after applying a local anastetic... but you have risks for infection caused by that.

So band. Yes.

Disbud. Absolutely.

AND you can administer Banamine before the banding or emasculation (about 30 mins before, IM) to help with the pain...just a little tidbit to keep in mind.

Hey Trish...We have two goats that have their horns. They do buck eachother but they dont seem to hurt eachother either. Sometimes I wish they didn't have their horns when they get playing with me cuz if they catch you....it hurts. But the other side is they can protect themselves with them and they are pretty easy to catch and grab on to when they have those big handles!!he he he

If I were to get goats, they would definitely be disbudded as youngsters. I was taking care of a friend's goats, and was attacked by their buck. When I finally escaped, I was bruised almost to bleeding from hip to ankle. It is no joke what they can do with their horns. Even now I am leary of the does my friend still has. Everyone has their own opinon on this, but that is my .02 God bless!
