Who do I order chicks from?

I had a good experience with Murray McMurray. My advice would be to go online and check out different hatchery's web sites and find one you're comfortable with.

Thanks for all the replies! I am going to try to be brave and maybe go with a suprise pullet special and see if shipping would be any sooner. I wouldn't have to order anymore chicks but I lost 14 due to a naughty wild animal, but the girls and the roo are secure now *wasn't going to order more until they were*

I like Ideal, MPC although a tad pricey they do pack them well. McMurray is good, and I hear good things about cackle , just the getting through to them a tough sometimes. But good luck.

I ordered from Ideal on Monday, and they told me that my ducklings and peanutroosters will be here by Friday. o.o I hope so , because I'm not sleeping much in anticipation of that phone call from the post office. lol

LOL, so many folks around here (me included of course) are deciding to get into the backyard bird thing! I have read about how hard it is to get chicks this spring! Wow!

This spring I ordered from Meyer Hatchery, 2 dozen assorted brown egg layers pullets (no more than 3 of any variety), and 11 various silkies/frizzles, I was impressed. As promised they called me the day before letting me know they were shipping, I arrived with my youngest son at the P.O. early the next morning, and they ALL plus the 3 free chicks survived the trip, followed the instructions and only had one loss in a week.

I have decided to purchase another load of 40 day old pullets from them due mid June. I will let everyone know how everything turns out.

All in all, cost, service and selection I am impressed with Meyer Hatchery.

Did you select the NOTIFY ME option on the breeds you want from Ideal? If you do they will contact you as soon as they have them together. I wanted some cochins so I used the NOTIFY ME option and they called a week later with a ship date and asked if I still wanted them. They will be here June 19 (4 weeks after I used the NOTIFY ME option on thier site).
