Who does the daily chicken chores?

My DH and I are retired - Oh dear (I said) wouldn't it be nice to move to the country and raise our own chickens, we could relax and enjoy our surroundings. Famous last words.
We work harder now then when we had 9-5 jobs. (Not that our jobs were ever 9-5 more like 7-8) But I wouldn't change it for the world :love

:lau Clearly, you misunderstood your wife - she'd adore receiving jewelry, or furniture or a new bathroom remodel. The kids? Easy peasy - A trip to local toy store. These chickens are your gift and blessing for your family...I can hear my own right now, "not my job, mom!"
:bow Clearly, I didn't know what I was in for. The broody-hen fights over chicks; the never-ending supply of cockerals to deal with, grow out and send to Camp Frigidaire (oh why must we keep incubating BOYS?!); the lugging of bags of feed, of waterers, of used bedding, oh the lugging!; :he
Surely, I was as uninformed as any new parent.

Speaking about incubating boys, we hatched eggs last year for the first time, 4 end up roosters, I was frantic to look for homes for them since my oldest daughter suddenly became a vegetarian, knowing I got some “frozen guests” in the camp. I kept one Black Copper Marans, because he decided he won’t reveal that she was really a he until it was too late to find a home. So this spring I decided to throw in 15 eggs in an incubator, thinking they wouldn’t be all fertilized, maybe 3 or 4 will hatch. I was wrong again, 14 out 15 hatched and possibly 5 are roosters. I think I am a glutton for punishment, I set 12 more eggs to hatch, since I sold 4 for $10 each, and couple more friends want Black Copper Marans coveting those dark eggs.

Right now, its my son. I've been wanting to get chickens for a while, but last year my son asked for them so he had something to do over the summer. So, as a result, he cleans the coop, he lets them out in the morning and usually puts them up in the evening. He usually feeds them and waters them. I usually go get eggs. They know my call and come running, especially if I have something in my hands.
