Who else feels guilty?

I give mine dry cat food as a treat, sometimes dry other times soaked in warm water with other goodies added. But they get the treats after they have eaten their pellets, sort of like their dessert.

I feel so much better. Everytime I go out they look so sad if I don't have anything. I have to take good care of them. Glad I am not the only one

Today I had to give them a cup full of scratch in order to get them out of my garage. I was going in circles trying to shoo them out of the garage so that I could close it to leave. As soon as I would chase them out they would circle back behind me. Finally I scooped up a cup of scratch and when I did that they all followed me out of the garage and stayed out! The only guilt I had there was that I had to bribe my chickens so that I could leave.

I feel SO guilty! I got up today and fixed my chickens a huge bowl of cooked oatmeal, cooked rice, fresh pumpkin and frozen sliced zucchini. Not kool! They LOVED it. They all just attacked that pan like they were starving.

Tonight they all have enlarged crops, and me in the middle of a snowstorm and unable to get anywhere to get them some grit. The floor of their covered run is dirt, so I am hoping they can dig up their own. I am so scared they will die from me being TOO much of a softie. I just hope I go out tomorrow and find them all OK!

ARose4Heaven, you can make a really simple grit dispenser out of 3 inch PVC pipe and a couple of elbow joints. I made mine and mounted it inside my coop by the feeder and waterer. Easy to fill and the girls can get the grit whenever they need it. I also have one I made that I keep oyster shell in. Just make sure its 1)low enough for them to get to it with their beaks, and 2) high enough to keep them from digging it out with their feet like scratching it out. A piece of 4x4 will do the trick - perfect height.

Yes, dispensers for grit and oyster shell are on my "to-do" list, especially since my flock is about to get MUCH larger. I have been concentrating so hard on building a brooder for the 100+ chickies that McMurray will be sending, I just went overboard today "spoiling" my girls. I shake oystershell over their crumbles about once a week, but just haven't remembered to pick up any grit when at the store. I am more than a little worried about my girls tonight.

Yup..i feel the same way. They all come running to me when they see me...i feel like i'm letting them down if i dont have "something" for them.
And if you think they are bad... try having pet pigs... They look up at you and grunt...they "sit pretty" and beg... trying to get you to give them something..
I cant go outside my house without food in my hand..
