Who else gets migraines both with and without aura?

I was in an auto accident in 1986, rolled my little bitty car into a little bitty ditch, and have had migraines on & off ever since. It's my neck that's all messed up. Being an A-1 Klutz, I've also fallen down stairs twice and the bang! Bang! Bang! of my head off the stairs didn't exactly help matters any. (If you ever wondered what is wrong with me, now you know)

I get the aura, and I know by now that I have only about an hour until the pain arrives, so i take 3 Advil. That usually controls the pain well enough. The problem though is driving. Seeing things like the power line poles or tree branches move around the car make my eyes react as if something is thrown at my face. I hate that. But at least I can drive - sunglasses seem to help that.

I don't get them as bad as I used to, and I'm very happy about it! I do have two children that get migraines with no aura, and advil and a nap seems to help them. One is a boy of 12 and one is a girl of 8.

Ugh.. I get the Thor's Hammer (no warning, no aura) variety of migraine occasionally. Unfortunately, the best I can do at that point is put an ice pack on the back of my neck and forehead, stick my feet in a bucket of hot water and moan. (quietly, sound makes Thor angry!) If I can make it to the chiropractor (activator or MET only!) and then get some cranio-sacral work I'll get some relief. Frova works for me if (big IF) I can get it in time, when I have a little warning. But I usually wind up crashing for a few hours even then. Get your eyes checked and have some bloodwork run, anything out of wack with your body chemistry could be triggering these, especially hormones and B deficiency. Good luck..

I get both, but more without the aura. Mine was so bad last week I had to go in and get a shot. The doc also gave me a sample of a drug called "Relpax" you take it right when you feel one coming on. Havent had another yet to try it.. anyone used this?

I was going to suggest this also, glad I decided to read the whole thread. lol
I have both types of migraines, temperal and normal migraines.
I also have 2 herniated disks in my nek that need to get put back whwere they belong to stave off migraines.
its something to check into

Relpax! If what you are having is definitely migraines. You have absolutely got to try Relpax! For me, is has been amazing. Beyond amazing actually. The *huge* drawback to it is that it is a fortune. Without insurance (or if your insurance won't cover it), it is about $40-$50 per pill. Yes, PER PILL. My insurance luckily decided to cover me for 9 pills a month at a $60 copay. It has worked so well it has been worth it.

Anyway, I have had migraines with and without aura for several years. I have tried about every treatment you can imagine. Right now, I am on a couple different preventatives as well as prescription pain killers, the Relpax, and an anti-nausea med.

If at all possible, Cackle, I would see if your doctor would refer you to an endocrinologist as well to see if there is anything they can do about your hormone levels as well. That has got to be making matters worse.

I feel all your pain i have had this same problem for 20+ years gone to all the specialist and heard many wise craks from them

what i learned was while i lived in az and it would get up to 110 or hotter i would get them so bad would be in er vomiting.

i would get them just before a big storm, this still happens in tn where i now live.

foods never caused them for me other then nutrasweet never will touch it again thats a ticket to the er

showers and hot baths sometimes will help and dark dark room with no movement is best.

oh yes and tried all the meds and none worked for me im envious of those that did get relief from the meds

I tried Relpax today for the first time. Wow... at first I didnt think it was working and then wow... I feel so much better! When it first kicked in I didnt have the migraine anymore but felt kind of spacy and a little nausea... but then I felt GREAT! In fact tonight I feel the most clearheaded I have felt in a LONG time. I hope my insurance covers these as they seem to work well for me.

I went and mowed the lawn this afternoon when they kicked in.. so you know my migraine was gone!

I get both, but mainly without. When I started waking up with them, I went to the neurologist, who told me that because I pointed out how it always felt like even my hair hurt, I was one of the folks who won't respond to any of the 'triptan' meds. Lucky me!

He also said that it's not uncommon to get them when hormones are out of whack, and you can get more than one kind, with both caused by differing aspects of various hormones. He said if I got the hysterectomy I'm shooting for, the ones that show up with my cycle might go, but I may get more of the kind that kick me at night.

My new favorite is the stress migraines that I get all the time lately- used to only get one or two a year: I start vomiting for seemingly no reason and the head starts to hurt within 15 minutes or so- hard!

Gotta love the way all of the responses are female so far, btw.

I go to two chiropractors- a Chinese fellow who is magic, and an accupressure, chiro, aromatherapist gal who shut down my ovarian cysts for 2 years!

Give the chiro a whirl!
