Who else had their chicks BEFORE they built their coop?

We live in NH....have had tons of snow this winter.....we don't have a coop built yet....AND we get some of our chicks on Thursday 3/31! One of the benefits of "putting the cart before the horse"....the coop will get built in a more timely fashion and my husband will actually help my daughter and I build it as he is NOT going to want the chicks on our porch ANY longer than necessary! Be well....and Good luck with the weather!

well of course, I mean, you wouldn't want to have an investment in a coop until you found out if you really wanted chickens, now would you. I had mine for approximately a year before a coop, they ran loose in our horse barn, and three became over 50 during that time. I call this my motivator. 50 chickens in your husband work shop, he WILL build you a coop, don't even have to ask.

Psst, think you can call it human nature, we always get the cart before the horse, been doing it for centuries.

Our chicks have been living in an aquarium while my guy hastily built a run. Into the run in the daytime and back to the aquarium at night while he's been remodeling a dog house into a coop. Eventually it'll be a tractor! Last night was their first night in the coop because new wee baby chicks came into the aquarium yesterday. If you don't have a coop but you have big chickens living in an aquarium it's quite the incentive to not procrastinate. If we'd worked on the tractor before getting chickens it would never have been built!

Yes Because we had at first we just wanted to see the baby chicks I had asked my mom before and she said no chickens are smelly and we live in the city. Well low and behold we got five and started on that coop it took 4 weeks and not steady work at all.

They did free-range during the day but at night they lived in the same cage that they lived in when they were chicks at night.
