who else has eggs cooking???

I love hatching..I knew after my 1st that I was a goner..lol.. went from a borrowed incu and neighbors mutt eggs to seperate incubator and hatcher and the breeds I really want shipped in from all over the US.

Its so addicting, right? I currently have a bunch of bantam cochins, a few d'uccle and some polish. Day 6. I think I have alot of clears.

And I didn't realize you were in WV! Yeah!! Lol

Five Turkeys out, 3 chickens.....  :celebrate more piping and zipping

Went to the coop to let the four broodys out and like clockwork one the Jersey Giants waited a heart beat and jumped off the nest, she is due to hatch in 2 days figured this was more then likely her last outing before they hatch, went about my business then headed for the coop for an egg count and to make sure no others snuck eggs into broodys nest.... Much to my amazement there lay a half hatched chick in the JG's nest, I picked it up, stone cold and not moving... looks like she crushed it on the way off the nest... Shoot... took it with me to show husband who was in the process of putting down a 4.5 month old cockerel who had decided everything smaller than himself was fair game.. He had been attacking anything that got in his sights be it turkey or chicken...I have zero tolerance so it was to freezer camp for him...  Showed DH the dead chick and we walked into the rabbit house, put the chick in the garbage bag and when I went to push it down it CHIRPED!!! I rushed it into the house and into the incubator, it doesn't look good for it but for now it just needs some warmth and I could think of nothing else on the fly.... Looks to be one of the Buff Orpingtons too! :fl

I did candle the rest of her eggs and there are atleast 6 that have internal pips and one external pip ... She is sitting now on 9 as I took #10

I would have pee'd a lil in my pants

Sadly the baby chick didn't make it.. Not opening up the broody today, going to leave her to let the rest hatch...

On another note, even tho I opened and closed that incubator three times during hatching (2 were zipping when I put the half hatched chick in ) I got a 100% hatch with absolutely no assistance, at times that humidity was 86% and I couldn't even see in due to all the condensation on the windows lol... I pulled 2 on day 10 as they were clears and one quitter on day 18, but I have never had such a great rate after lockdown... One more set due to go into lockdown Thursday and I am done incubating..
Final count...8 turkeys and 7 chickens
Will post a photo once they are all out of the incubator

Now for the sad news.. We have lost two of our poults .. one was about 11 weeks old and the second was about 9 weeks old... No symptoms other then lethargic a few hours before I find them dead.. treating it as Cocci, separating them from the flock of chickens this evening (to difficult to do on my own) They have done fine until we allowed them freedom in the 1/2 acre run with the rest of the flock.

Love the quote!

Honestly, I don't know what kind of polish they are. The gal I got them from mentioned them at the last minute, so I bought them too. I need to ask her.

If they come out looking like my profile pic..Ill trade you a cpl Tolbunt chicks..lol

Lol, I'd do that for you. I'm just starting my flocks. I was given a couple of adult roosters, then I hatched some ducks (4 Swedish), and a slate turkey. Bought baby comet girls, then some more comets at 7 weeks old, same as mine were at that time. Then I hatched 10 lavender orpingtons that are now 5 weeks old. All of those will eventually go out to my farm. I decided I wanted to keep some at my house, so I started some bantams. Wasn't real particular on breed lol. Just something to enjoy at home, once my others are gone. Hadn't realized how much fun it is to just sit and watch them! haha. And maybe get a few eggs to boot! Will let you know in a couple weeks, what comes out, unless the gal knows what they are.

100% hatch !! 8 Turkeys and 7 Chickens
