Me and the hen were first timers and the eggs just hatched yesterday (at day 19 surprisingly) the hen started with 13 eggs, rolled 6 out and 3 didn't hatch but 4 itty bitty Serama chicks made it out into the world yesterday yay~!
Yay!!! Day 20 and I've ha one hatch and all pip. One has been pipped since around 9 this morning. I am desperately keep in myself from going in and "helping" anyone. For me this is the hardest and most worrisome part. Mostly I worry if anyone is shrink wrapped. Sigh, I'd ask why I keep doing this to myself but I know why. LOL
don't worry about the shrink wrap, if it is pipped and can breathe it can be in there for 2 days. some times I just remove the shell and pip around the beak. but let the chick do the rest good luck!
Question- does anyone know how fast it can really be to shrink wrap when there is decent humidity? I mean it can't happen instAntly, I'm not opening the incubator but its always touted as happening fast. Ive never had that happen even though I've not done many hatches. Im still sitting here staring into a lighted box looking at one chick peeping around. Lol
I dry hatch until first pip and don't have a shrink wrap problem. I am have had a chick with inner layer stuck before but you just warm moist paper towel it for a bit and you are okay.
Finally woke up and all six chicks are here! Ill post pics soon, im still working on coffee. Thanks for the help and very informative information you guys, this thread just made it more fun!
Day 5,I feel I am playing 10 little indians with my eggs. #1 had a crack I noticed first day so I removed it. 2&3 are too dark to check but I assume they are fine. 5&6 show good veining (pic is from yesterday)
4&8 both had embryos but the veining is looking weaker, 8 may be alright though. and 7 was clear.
so these are my hopefuls. I am most sad about having to toss #4.I have not yet, but it was such a cute-y all little and freckled.
