Who else is setting... I wanna see pics!

pbjmaker I have seen the underground fence work for some of my clients over the years. The ones that had success with it put in a lot of work. The biggest thing is to put up a fence of some type that the dog will see to learn where the invisible fence is.
We have a "yard" for our new roommates dog. It is made with electric fencing. With the regular light wire the post can be up to 16' apart and you can easily have a fence up to 6' high. One of the 4-H's has one covering 1 1/2 acres for their dog.

All the hatched chicks are still doing good. One in the incubator hatched late last night and died...

I will give the remaining eggs just a day more. Maybe I will try to candle them. White quail eggs are pretty easy to see...

So far really happy with the growgel experiment.

I need to candle my problem shipped eggs and see if any are developing. I don't have much hope.

Laurieks I have had eggs from the incubator look like that as they got closer. They hatched just fine ad di good. I decided I could not candle that late to tell what I really had. Things sound good! Hopefully she will have some fluff balls following her around soon.

The brooder ended up being 2' by 10'. I hope it is big enough for everyone..

Cant wait until mine hatch Sept 11th...think it might be an early hatch...so far so good, this is day 7...am wondering if I should candle or just let them be...my other hatched babies from Aug 7th are getting so big!!!!!

I do have a question if anyone knows...I had one cuckoo maran hatch...I noticed he has feathers on his feet, anyone know what kind he is??? dont trust the breeder who sent the eggs to me...

I ordered dozen and all came broken. got one little guy out of the shipment.....

this is him...Im going to assume its a roo???? from the little comb this hatch is 23 days old, so this is a comb Im seeing?

Marans can have feathered legs. He looks to have the right colored legs. Not sure on the sex for you though. Pullets will be darker than roos most of the time. I will have to get you a picture of my cuckoo maran X Black copper roo baby that hatched August 6th - now he has a comb and it's already turning red. But they are sex-linked chicks so I knew he was a roo from the moment he hatched.

would it help if I got a better picture of him, other than with my cell phone?...lol know its hard to tell in this picture. Ok so any maran can have booted legs?

When I bought them I was told he was RARE FRENCH CUCKOO MARAN....but then again....this was my bad shipment with broken eggs...all but 4 and this one is the only one that hatched.

True french marans have feathered legs, the english "versions" have clean legs. My cuckoo maran is clean legged and the black copper is feathered. Here are two of their young'uns. The baby roo is barred and the baby girl is black. She has a decent comb also but I'm 100% sure its a girl.

Spencer (roo) and un-named girl:

Here you can see he has feathered legs:

Feel free to name the girl

I will be keeping her but probably getting rid of him - even though he likes to perch on my shoulder and sing in my ear.

ETA: these guys hatched August 6th - so at the same stage of development as yours

AHHH, I recall Pbj....we were in a thread together for our hatches...so we did hatch these together...Im gonna get a better pic. of him today...Im thinking its a roo, but I could be wrong...Im keeping this one because He is the only cuckoo for one, and if it is a roo, I need a roo that is a cuckoo, the guy did sell those eggs and labeled them

FRENCH CUCKOO MARANS, and you said true French are feathered, correct?...Im thinking of calling him BOOTS AND IF A HEN, BOOTIES

Im gonna get a better picture later.

Would you like to join us insider? I'm running a week behind these guys in my incubator because I wasn't going to do it , but they made me!

Otherwise we are just discussing other random chicken stuff to pass the time between checking temp/humidity readings

Well my last hatch (for a while) is in the hatcher right now. One zipping, and nothing from the others as yet. So I'll just have to chat along I guess and watch the show.

See now - thats what I thought. The incubator was in the garage and everything. But I had these little eggs just sitting here calling to me and Paganbird and 2txmedics (especially her) wore me down to where I could no longer control my actions and I plopped 13 eggs in the bator the other day. Oh yeah - and Walkswithdog was right in there cheering them on.

Thats my story and I'm sticking to it!
