I did put cheese cloth over the hardware cloth in the bator. So glad I did. I am now doing that for the Coturnix too. Lets the air flow work and keeps tiny feet from getting caught.

I was wondering what to use inside the bator....I used paper towel last time, that was what I read to do...and come to find out a few said, never do that...the paper towel absorbs the mositure the chick needs while hatching, thus dries it out.....anyone heard this before???

what can I use??

I plan to go out & buy some of that shelf liner for the quail to hatch onto. I don't want their little feet to get caught in the wire!

that rubbery shelf liner?...with the tiny holes??? My bator is holding its temps...I set on the 22nd....cant wait

ok, got it...I wonder if I could put those in my nest boxes...under the shavings??? my hens move all the shavings out, then the egg drops, cracks...

.....have had like 5 eggs that way so far....and its from gorgeous hen too!!!! I want to hatch her chcks.

My broody is filling in for me

. I'm hatching vicariously through her.

It gets really cold here in winter and I would like my chicks to be nearly grown before it hits. If I hatched them now - it would be cutting it too close. I figure the broody will keep the ones she has warm.
