hi 2tx, dont we hatch on the same day. sept 11
I candled 2 days ago and wont anymore..
this is my first time with silkies 1doz, I hope it works out.
I have been changing my coops around and the rain made a mess so
Its cleaning and get ready for any that do come to meet
and greet the rest of the flock.LoL

Well I have a total of 17 quail eggs and over 50 chicken eggs

The good news is that I've sent out the list of the chick breeds to my local chicken group people and I think I have about 15-20 spoken for. ... phew!

I'll post pics of my new bator when I finish it up tomorrow!

How did I let myslef get to 50 hatching eggs???

you know I didnt like chickens...I dont know what happen..DH said hey lets get a "few" chickens for eggs...I sighed and said ok ok...already. so we did...and now we have 3 coops just bought another new 10x10 kennel...hatched babies aug 7th...and have a full bator now, and just bought a hovabator on CL for 25.00....WHAT HAPPENED????

I say honey...I get, Ohhhh noooo and hides...and then as they hammer, I hear in a low voice...I just wanted a few chickens, for a few eggs...for a nice breakfast...*hammer* *hammer* *hammer* *OUCH #%$%^*

Well, when I say 'spoken for' I mean that I still have to hatch the chicks myself and then the chicken people will take the breeds they want! What an ordeal

yes Sissy, we are in the running together....hope it goes well.....then I realized that they hatch on the 11th and on oct 3rd I leave for a week!!!! go see my son before he goes to Iraq, and so who is going to watch the babies!!!!?

DH works also as a Medic, and gone 24 and 48hr at a time...

Candling is fun! I opened the nonhatched Bobs and all the leftover eggs were dead before being fully formed. I just had 2 that I lost fully formed (both hatched), on seemed to bleed out from its belly and one that is simply weak. I lost count and forgot I could have counted the egg shells...

I think there are over 30...

The chukers were mostly fully formed and a lot of them pipped. If I have enough for breeding I will be hatching them separately from now on at a low humidity. It really looks like I drowned most of them....

That is how I felt too!!!

I am extremely happy with the results of using the growgel. All the hatchlings are bouncing and skittering all over. Boy can those little things move!!!! They make the Coturnix I raised before look like turtles!

I threw out 2 more of the "problem" eggs. Absolutely nothing starting in them...

Maybe I will hatch with all of you.

farrier, I had problems also with hatching so I read and researched found what works for me...and NO, IM NOT CANDLING...no no no...

not gonna do it, all is stable...Im really gonna try to not candle...
