Who else is setting... I wanna see pics!

Nah.. I try to candle at day 7 and day 14. I don't think it's an issue to open the incubator every once in a while, unless you're on lockdown.

Ive had eggs weep before and go bad and also explode, and boy the STINK!!!!....and yes I had candled with those...my eggs are looking good....I was kidding when I said I wasnt candling...

Ok my eggs that were under my broody cochin that are starting week 2 (noticed the name change) are now under the two broody silkies. The cochin has moved and sits and glares at them.

I've tried a total of 23 peafowl eggs this year. (The last 4 are due in about 3 weeks.) So far, half were infertile, 5 were old eggs, one I lost due to a power outtage, one has a bloodring, others just didn't develop. That leaves me with one possible chick in a few weeks. It better be a pretty one... peafowl eggs cost $8 to $10 dollars per egg. (Plus s/h)
DH told me he doesn't want to know how much $$ went toward eggs. I am forbidden to discuss it with him!

You would have been better off buying a pair of adults at those prices!!

Okay, so the Brinsea 20 OCT was on the window seat in a nice climate controlled room with the shades drawn and the fan on.... yesterday the shades were raised (by an unknowing 3rd party) and the sun beat on the bator putting it over 102.

So as of today, there are 17 less eggs are going to hatch. The bigger eggs still look iffy but I put them back in with the shades down just in case. I hopeful that the larger eggs didn't have the quick temp rise that the smallers ones did. All 6 seramas are dead (blood rings and all) the Bantam Araucanas are mostly gone too although there are 2 that are questionable. Here's hoping!

My other bator was not affected and so far only 4 out of 29 have turned out to have not been fertile after a candling on day 10. You live and you learn I guess.

Yeah, thought I'd try to keep the title updated.
Today was day 10 for the peas, so I candled them again.
2 still clear and 2.... blood rings.

I guess I'm not supposed to have any more peas this year.
Well, I was upset, so I candled the rest of the eggs to bring up my spirits.
I still have one (of 2) guinea eggs showing veining. (The other is still clear.)
Both ?duck? eggs have not only veining, but avid movement! DH says he's pretty sure they're ducks (not chickens) because of how much they're swimming around in there!
20 (out of 20) cortunix eggs have veining. I was able to see movement in several of them.
I had a hard time seeing the buttons... mostly just full of chick, I guess, so I didn't candle all of them.
Now to the eggs that were damaged horribly in shipping:
I ended up so far with 3 bloodrings, one stink bomb, and 7 clears.
That leaves me with:
2 cracked eggs and 7 uncracked eggs - ALL with varying degrees of damage to aircells. Of the remaining 9 eggs... all show movement!
I have 2 mille fleur d'uccle (one cracked/patched), 2 LF salmon faverolles, 2 LF "ameraucanas" (EE- one cracked in 2 places with a connecting crack girthing the egg), 1 blue polish, 1 white crested black polish, and 1 silver penciled polish.
Wish me luck on those chicken eggs... They'll need all the luck they can get!

wishiwasjane - Oh no! That's so depressing when something happens to your eggs that was "preventable." I found out the hard way with my first hatch... incubators and 7 year old boys don't play well together.
Good luck on the remaining eggs!

shelleyd2008 - What do you think about that fertility rate on your shipped eggs? I'm impressed! So far the only one I know for sure not to expect is the one guinea egg.
If only you shipped pea eggs... hmmmm. LOL!
The buttons & the cortunix go to the hatcher later this week... I'm getting excited!!

All of the chicken eggs I'm incubating have aircell damage... some are pretty severe. one is cracked and one is smashed. They all have live, moving embryos inside... don't give up on your eggs until you're sure!
