I agree, you probably want to set at minimum (in my opinion) 6 eggs. Chicks do better with a friend, and the other account for early quitter, infertile eggs, etc.

Best of luck to you, looks like you have a great set up and your candler is too cute.

I just set 24 BCM eggs today, I only expect about half of those to make it to hatch, since they are shipped eggs, anything above that is gravy!

Thanks everyone! As soon as I get another egg I will start saving more to set later. I have bought one chick before I had the coop and it did just fine on her own. Like I said, this is just an eggsperiment. Its my very first time! I was afraid to put more that one egg in just in case something went wrong on the first hatch. Im still very new to this. Oh, by the way, day two is going well! The temp is still steady at 99.5!

I have eggs due to hatch on the 24th but I am becomming ADDICTED to these fuzzy butts I have a mixed flock and I also have a seperate Flock of pure Rhode Island Reds NOT hatchery! I am thinkin I wanna incubate a few of their eggs too!
We also have the same bator!

I just set some of my eggs and not expecting very much because all of my blue egg are at the end of being fertile. Two dogs got 10 of my chickens, with my rooster being one of them. I just have to try. Still working on my white silkies and have 6 of those in there. I have a Hova1602N with turbo air and the turner. I have not done many hatches but a few nice chicks. I've done a few shipped eggs with BYC members coming out good with e-bay eggs not so good. The incubator is doing good now so I'm going to bed. Good luck to all.

Friend at work gave me 4 "hot" eggs, built a homemade incubator, and dropped the eggs in last night. I am excited to see what happens, and my two sons are wondering were the chicks are already.

I set my eggs on the 10th.

I can still be included right? They are due around the 31st, 2nd, and 4th I believe. (Stagger hatching) This is my first time incubating chicken eggs, so I'm pretty excited. I have 7 BR eggs from my own beautiful girls in the bator'!

Count me in! I've got 12 bcm and 12 mixed from my own flock! I too have a staggered hatch, most were placed today, some yesterday and some the day before. Oh well......here we go! Best of luck to all these eggspirments out here. This is my first time too and have the same bator!!!

How did you guys get your bator temp steady. Anyone have thermometers giving different readings?

I am stuck right now at 102 and cannot get it down
