Who Else Is Setting Their First Hatch? Hatch Along! ~UPDATES!!~

My first hatch is in lockdown. Got 32 eggs on day 19 hoping for chickies soon. Frustrated that my incubator only has a tiny peep hole, so can't see alot of what is going on in there. I wont open the lid tho, I know better. But it has held its heat and humitity really well and all the eggs still in there are developing great. I threw 10 duds or quiters out, not bad out of 42 eggs. I got mostly delawares in there and some americana, a few milli fluer and some mutts from my own flock. I bought most of the eggs.

Come on chickies

I am letting my hens go broody. Not my first hatch either I have two broody hens one started on the 25th of last month and one that started yesterday. I have only 5 under my Silkie and I have another under a Dominique that went broody I love the chance to see new chicks running around and chirping. They are a blast and the worst part is I think I have two more hens whom want to be momma's too. LOL My poor hubby will freak out but, not me I am a happy camper the more the better. I already have ppl whom want to buy from me that bought some of my chicks earlier this year. I keep busy but, still excited about it.

Got my first peep last night. At about 4 this afternoon noticed a crack in the shell. Around 8, there is a hole in the shell just above the beak. I can see it breathing, and it is still peeping. How long will it sit with just this small hole? I am not usually a worrier, but this might keep me up all night.

I'll go back and read everything later. I just set my first on Tuesday. I've takens some pics. i'll get those up later too!

UPDATE

The pipped egg is still in that state, but when I went to check on it 15 min ago, suprise, there was a little wet furball from another egg that I thought had given up! It sure is a loud one!!

The old saying "Don't count your chickens before they hatch" is true, I had counted this one out, and low and behold here it is!

My first hatch was great, Out of 42 eggs 26 chicks hatched. 8 of them were not fertile, and the othere 9 quite during incubation. The chicks are so cute and fluffy. Im very happy with them. I picked 5 to keep, now I have to find homes for the others.

All three of my good eggs hatched! The one that pipped at 4pm yesterday was the first one to show, but the last one to hatch. I set 4 eggs, three hatched. This is a real confidence booster, as all I had was a homemade cooler incubator. Once my girls start laying I am goint to hatc out more!!!

Congrats everyopne on your beautiful babies! Unfortunately, it didnt go so well for me. Poor thing didnt develop and died around day eight.
