Who else is waiting for that first egg?

If my chickens are having sex does that mean ill have eggs soon because they are sexually mature?thanks
generally once they sexually mature they will start laying within a couple months. Now,I've had 12 weeks old attempting to breed but they definitely were not laying anytime near that sge.

I'm not waiting on my first egg ever per say buy I'm waiting on a project batch of pullets to start laying. They're 17 weeks old this Saturday and already reddening and growing wattles.

This thread makes me LOL because I'm in the same boat and nonchicken people just do not understand! My name is Nichole, and I'm also on full blown first egg anxiety and chicken addict! Thankfully we have this site, eachother, and a way to connect!!

I have six 15 week old barred rocks that are huge and I have a feeling will lay soon. I check twice a day! Just yesterday I noticed someone had dug a hole in the shavings of a lower nesting box. I filled it back in and this morning another one had a hole dug in it! I wonder if this means one of my girls are getting ready??? I'm soooooo excited. Good luck, everyone. Post first egg pics please!!!

Oh my, I hope I survive another four weeks of waiting lol. Congratulations!! Did they act any differently or indicate they were going to lay? My girls are free range all day but go in and out of the coop and then are locked in from about 7pm - 7 am. I'm hoping they use the nesting boxes and don't lay under the trees in my backyard where they generally hang out!

I can't wait for my first eggs either. I have 2 Ameracaunas. 3 Red Sex Links and 2 Black Sex Links. The black links are only 1 1/2 months, while the others are 2- 2 1/2 months. I just want the first one to come!!

They didn't act any differently. I found them right under one of the roosts. Like they were taking a mid morning nap and the eggs just dropped right out. I've been putting extra straw down under the roosts just incase this happened. One of my girls was playing in the overgrown pasture next to my property in the afternoon and I heard her doing an egg song, but I'm never going to be able to find that egg if she did lay one.
