Who else is watching their EEs change colors?

Here are a few of my girls all grown up. Three looked like chipmunks and one was the odd one. Dark all over.

They turned out with nice rust/brown with tan highlights!

We have 3 of the 4 laying right now. Each has their own color. Blue - light blue - pale green. Can't wait to see what the 4th one lays!

We had two double yolkers in two days! Huge eggs too.

Those looks like the chickens I got from the Grange. They sold them as Ameraucaunas, but they look like these pictures. Did I get ripped off?

It seems to be a common practice in feed stores to call anything that might lay a colored (green or blue) egg an "Ameraucana" or "Aracauna". It is inaccurate, but what I have been told by local stores, is that the hatchery insists that the birds be labelled this way. I don't know if that is true or not, but it is commonly seen. Seems like it should almost be fraud, but they didn't ask me.

I ordered mine from mypetchicken.com. They were advertised as "easter eggers". My father has a friend that raises many chicks and was looking to get the Ameraucana's and could not find the pure breed, as the "easter eggers" are a hybrid of a few breeds.

there is a difference i discovered when i got my first hatchery Amer., but since i am just in it for fun, it wasn't a big issue- there are some threads explaining the difference- my first two- Muffy, she lays greenish blue, her hatchmate, Olive laid pinkish- lost her to a preditor...still miss that girl, extremely friendly, anyway- will keep you posted on these two, i am addicted to EE's whether they are 'quality' or not..
