Who else was on lockdown 9/5-9/9? (Post your Hatch Round-ups!)

Woo hoo almost time! I'm on day 14 checked eggs last night 11 out of 41 not good. So 30 is my goal. Had some not fertlized, 2 blood rings,2 blk spots.

I am so happy to find this post! My first hatch is in the incubator and I hear
peeping and one egg has pieces of shell off already! Nothing going on any of
the others yet. My husband got me out of bed around 5 this morning on his way
to work and said 'you have a chick' I asked him what kind it was and he said 'I don't know, I can't see it, but I can hear it' He didn't realize that you can hear them before they actually hatch!!! ;-)

We have had so many problems that I truly did not expect any to hatch. I'm so excited! Does anyone know how long it usually takes for the chicks to hatch once they start? I hope all goes well. I've read the horror stories and am scared to death that there will be a problem. Just call me worry-wart!

Does anyone else have a chick hatched yet this morning?

A cracked shell means its ZIPPING...lol. Sometimes they hatch quick other times 12hrs or more. Its a lot of work for them to get out you will see them move to get out n pip. And then no movement n no sound. They are resting. Deep breath chicken mama! Lol

Ok! Deep breath taken! I'm feeling better!

Thanks for the pep talk and the vocabulary lesson! I have THREE 'zipping' now and am just too excited! They got through the membrane, so I know they are at least getting
air. I won't get a thing done today except watch those babies.

How long should I wait to throw any that don't hatch away? Don't want to throw out anything that might hatch, but not sure how long to wait on them.

Does anyone have a suggestion on the safest bedding for the brooder? I tried wood shavings with the chicks I bought last spring, but they seemed to eat a lot of it and the shredded newspaper seemed pretty slippery.

This is just too much fun!!!!

Woot!! So many hatches going on--it's like a pip party!!

Sending happy hatching vibes to everyone... and now I've got to get going--I can't wait to start seeing pictures of everyone's hatching babies!!

wait for 48-36 hours.

em, in past time when i buy chicks, i just use a card board box with hole and lamp, that's all, use no bedding at all.

slippery? what? the chicks slipping? the only time when i see my roost and girls get slipping is when they try to catch the ducks in muddy soil.

they are so funny, how can they effort to catch duck in mud land.

Irish Boy, Good luck and I hope you start seeing some progress soon.
I looked at those ads on EBay too, so would love to know what you end up
with from them. Keep us posted!

I thought this thread needed a picture. This is one of my speckled sussex I believe(correct me if I'm wrong) at 20 days pipping out its shell. It's cherping away along with some other eggs. You can just see its beak poking out!

I'm trying not to handle them too much...
