Who all out there has a walk in coop? We have one and are planning on doubling it's size in the spring. I love our run it works out great but our coop always has seemed to be a work in progress type thing. So I am looking for tips and such. If you have pics that would be great! Let me know what worked for you and what didn't.

I have one that is 8'x12' with a big run outside . I'd show a pic but ever since I scanned a pic on the printer my folders are all screwed up . We're planning on adding to ours too . Another 8'x11' that's split for new chicks and broodies . Are you adding on for more room for your existing chickens ? Kinda hard to give you advice without seeing what you have . Can you post pics ?

Sorry no pics here either. But I have a 4x8 with a truly huge run, which is for my ducks and laying hens. Our brooder coop is seprate and it seems to work well so it would be strictly for my girls. We are planning to make it a 8x10 with the addition. I would love to make it bigger but it is set between trees and that is all the extra room I have to expaned.

The floor layout seems to be our biggest problem. We can't seem to find something that works. The roosts and boxes never seem to be in the right place to best use the space.

I have a walk in as well. Its raised off of the ground, since we have irrigation every two weeks. Its about 7' X 7' and about 10' tall. Its really nice, but we are hoping to build a new one soon. I'll try to find a pic.

I like to build my houses 6 feet wide. Done that for a long time. Then just go multiples of 4 feet. this way you can do the 8 foot roof gris with overhang.

I put the door typically on the 6 foot end. Nest boxes by the door. Poosting poles at the other end, with a scean opening below the roosts to keep the poop outside.
My duck house is 6x4
My meat house is 6x8 (so an old truck canopy could fit as the roof)
laying/breeder houses are 6x12. These two are facing each other with a split yard in between. So if it works best build another house and join it from another side of the yard rather than struggling to increase the size of the one house.

We have an 8X10 walk in coop right now with plans to build more. Our neighbors moved and gave us an 11X21 covered carport that we plan on making into three coops. Here in Florida we dont have to worry to much about the cold so this will be fine with the right siding and fence. Cant wait to get started on it. Micki

I just got my walk in coop and it is a dream. I love it. It is easier to clean. My other coop is a pain in the bumm. I also had a higher run built on it. It is so nice to not bonk my head every time I go out to feed the chickens. It's not fancy but it works.
