Who Has Large Fowl Silkies From TSC Store?

I've heard about hatchery Silkies getting bigger and bigger. The hatcheries aren't being careful about breeding and they are getting away from the standard.

Well that doesn’t surprise me.

Seriously? I've eaten a lot of silkies and still am 78. How many must I eat to reduce my age ?

@MysteryChicken, that is probably the best quality Silky chicken I have seen that came from TSC. Other than it's size it actually looks like a silky. Many are single combed, hard feathered, and lack any foot feathering. Several years ago our local got such a poor quality group that they eventually had to give them away - no one would buy them.

I purchased some Japanese silkies, 50 years ago, they were not bantam, the roosters were pretty tall and stately. Hens laid sky blue eggs. Like most things the show ring has developed what it likes sacrificing the true nature af birds, dogs and........

My silkie roo stands 16 and a half inches tall.

My sister's silkie hen lays light creamy to tinted eggs that are occasionally speckled.

My sister's silkie is also short, stalky, has a single comb, and very little feathering on her legs with one foot with five toes. So I'd say she's either a meat silkie, or just a pet quality silkie.
