Who has purchased eggs from ebay ? and what was your hatch rate ?

This afternoon was day 22 and nothing from my 22 eggs in the incubator. We do not have a pip, zip or any noise. I am so hoping they are just late. Doing the same as we did with our first hatch and that ended up 8 out of 12, which I though was good. Two quite just before hatch and two did not develop. The issue is the breed that I want I cannot locate locally. The Ameraucanas are local but the breeder would not let us pick them up because they do not let people on their farm that have their own flock. The others were shipped from PA.
To me that sounds like their hiding something ? My local hatchery makes every one sterilise their foot ware before letting on he farm to view parent stock that sounds very suspicious.

My DH thought the same way as you. But who knows maybe they are very protective. I know they breed very rare birds as well as chickens so maybe that is why. Can't say. Won't purchase from there again. The reason I bid on the eggs was I thought I would be able to pick the up. My fault, I should have asked earlier before bidding. We will see - maybe we will be surprised today. I hope.

I read from others that the SFH seem to take extra days to hatch and the Ameraucanas, I don't know. DH did say he saw movement in the eggs so maybe, just maybe, we will see something tomorrow morning.....Kids...it is not nice to keep mom-mom waiting. LOL

The breeder could be NPIP-certified, in which case, they would have the right to refuse anyone that already has poultry from coming on their property. It's a way of keeping diseases from infecting their flocks, since the NPIP certification takes a lot of work to obtain. Even if they bring in another bird from someone else's flock, the new bird(s) have to be in quarantine for 30 days, to ensure that they don't bring something in.

Yes that could be another factor! Better off seeing breeding stock before you buy :) so try to go more local

My husband and I were just talking about this issue and of course I knew I'd find a thread for it on here!

Glad that I'm not the only person with the Ebay issue but sorry for everyone else..... I don't get it I've ordered eggs from people on here and never had issues even with wonky air cells I've had plenty of babies hatch but it never fails if I order off of Ebay (I've tried different breeds, different sellers all with 100%) and my hatches just suck! I don't understand since they're all shipped but I have deffinitly given up hope on anything bought on Ebay I just recently bought 12 golden laced polish and out of the 12 I have 4 left in the incubator and I still have 2 weeks to go on them so hopefully they all hatch out

but most of them had blood rings within 3 days or just didn't develop at all after 10 days.... stupid and so frustrating!!

OUCH!!! I have had 100% hatch rate, and 0%. It is a scramble gamble.

Same here. I just last weekend had my latest hatch via Ebay. Was not great. Better than the local eggs I set though. 2 Ebay breeds were like 11% and 23% and 1 didn't make it a day after hatch. My own eggs 100% and guinea eggs from my birds were 22/23 fertile hatched. 25 infertile but those had a rough story.
So like many others I am sticking to my own birds for eggs. If I want a different breed its just as cheap and more effective buying day olds, to me anyway. Or find adults for sale and have breeders sooner. And sometimes its cheaper. But as it sits I have enough ideas breeds and birds to perpetuate my oultry fancy for years.... except turkeys but I will work on that another year I building breeding flocks now. 2 breeds ducks, 2 colors guineas and plenty of brown egg layers. With a few scrambles thrown in to play with some genetics. ALmost feel like Dr Frankenstein.

ha! I like that scramble gamble that deffinitly fits the bill!! It just surprises me that my friend found a quail egg in the horse pasture and put it in the incubator and that poor thing has been through it all..... unplugging the inc cuz I forgot it was in there along with it not being turned for like 3 days, a temp spike of 104, the entire inc fell and hit the ground along with all the eggs and that dang thing is alive and well but these eBay eggs I can't get to survive given spot on conditions!!
